What is grief therapy?
Grief is a natural reaction to loss – it can be the loss of a loved one, a life purpose, a relationship or something else that was important. Often life is fundamentally changed and it can take time to come to terms with what has happened.
In many cases, grief gradually eases over time, but sometimes it becomes overwhelming, prolonged or difficult to bear alone. It can affect sleep, energy, self-image and relationships, or make it difficult to find meaning in everyday life. Grief can also bring up complex emotions such as guilt, anger or emptiness – especially after a sudden or traumatic loss.
Grief therapy is not about ‘moving on’ or letting go, but about creating space to understand and make room for grief. Together with a therapist, you can process what has happened, put words to what you feel and step by step find ways to live on – with what has been as part of your story.
How do we work with grief therapy?
Grief therapy with us is always based on your needs and your story. Sometimes it’s about giving your feelings space, sometimes it’s about finding a language for what is difficult to put into words. We work both with supportive conversations and with more structured methods, such as cognitively oriented elements when self-criticism or anxiety dominate, existential conversations when questions about life meaning and identity become central, or trauma-focused work when the grief is linked to sudden or difficult events.
You do not need to know in advance what you need help with – we explore that together. The therapy is adapted to where you are and aims to create understanding, relieve suffering and support you in finding direction in a changed life.
